The programme includes arias and duets from Mozart’s most popular operas, performed by the talented singers of the Irish National Opera Studio accompanied by accomplished pianist, Adam McDonagh.

Each year, in partnership with the University of Galway, Music for Galway honours extraordinary Galwegian woman Emily Anderson by dedicating one of their seasonal concerts to her memory.

One of Anderson’s main claims to fame is editing and translating of the complete letters of both Mozart and Beethoven.

This year the programme is Mozart, and in line with this season’s title Breathe, a vocal concert will showcase this man’s unique genius.

In this concert, audiences can enjoy some of the most famous numbers from a variety of his operas – including Cherubino’s two arias on new-found puppy love from The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni’s outrageously seedy attempts to seduce a peasant woman on her wedding day.

Strong women are to the fore with Fiordiligi’s aria 'Come Scoglio - Like a Rock' from Così fan tutte and Sesto’s momentous aria 'Parto, parto' from The Clemency of Titus, set in Ancient Rome. These arias test the limits of the human voice with their extreme virtuosity and miraculous lyricism.

This truly unique event will also include short talks by computer scientists Dave Pope and Jennifer Conlon about Emily Anderson’s code-breaking techniques and her wonderfully mathematical mind.

Standard tickets are at €22, with concessions at €19.80. Solidarity tickets are available at €11 and the MfG Friend rate is €18.
