A defence solicitor pleaded that his client, charged with dangerous and careless driving, had been released from hospital on the day in question and should not have been allowed to get behind the wheel of a car as he was on medication at the time.
Eric Gleeson, solicitor told Judge James Faughnan at Tuam District Court that his client, Michael Conlon, 43 Castleview, Headford, was pleading guilty to the charges, but he requested more time before sentencing so his client’s behaviour could be monitored.
Judge Faughnan said it was unusual to have someone charged with both dangerous and careless driving, sections 53 and 52 of the Road Traffic Act. On a plea, he reduced the charges to two of careless driving.
Mr Gleeson told the Court that Conlon had been in hospital and on strong medication on the day Gardaí detected him driving in an erratic manner, and should not have been allowed to drive that day.
He added that his client’s GP was happy with his progress and asked for more time to monitor his behaviour. Judge Faughnan adjourned matters until May.
