Sawn-offs and cocaine press found by Gardaí in New Inn

A MAN who faces charges of being in possession of two sawn-off shotguns and a cocaine press had his case sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court in Galway, when he came before Judge James Faughnan at Ballinasloe District Court.

Michael Francis, Rathdulan, New Inn, Ballinasloe is to face charges following a Garda search of his home and property.

His solicitor requested free legal aid to be granted and for one junior and one senior counsel to represent him at the higher court.

However, Judge Faughnan questioned the need for the senior, pointing out that there was no evidence that the defendant had used the shotguns. He said if there was a need for such a level of representation he would consider it.
