Hoare says urgent action needed from Uisce Éireann over ongoing water disruptions on Circular Road

Cllr Eddie Hoare has called on Uisce Éireann to urgently address the ongoing and unacceptable interruptions to the water supply affecting residents in the wider Circular Road area in Galway City.

In recent years, local residents have endured repeated and prolonged water outages, many of which occur without notice and can last for over 24 hours at a time. The problem has persisted despite ongoing reports and complaints to Uisce Éireann.

Recent correspondence from residents highlights the severity of the issue. According to information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, there were approximately 480 water-related investigations, repairs, or asset replacements carried out on Circular Road between 2023 and 2024, including 36 separate “no water” notifications within that 12 to 18-month period.

“These figures are staggering and completely unacceptable for any residential area,” said Cllr. Hoare. Families cannot be expected to live with constant water outages and no proper communication or explanation. This is a basic public service, and residents deserve reliability and transparency.”

“I am calling on Uisce Éireann to provide a clear explanation and an actionable plan to permanently resolve these recurring supply issues,” he continued.

“This ongoing disruption is not sustainable and is causing real hardship for families — from damage to household appliances and heating systems to the simple daily challenge of living without water.”

Cllr. Hoare confirmed that he met senior representatives from Uisce Éireann on Wednesday and raised this and other matters directly with them, and received an immediate update and timeline for remedial works.
