A WOMAN who was so drunk that she was “foaming at the mouth” when Gardaí found her at Lower Salthill at 4pm and had to arrest her for her own safety.
This was the scenario outlined to Judge Fiona Lydon at Galway District Court when Christine Dervin appeared before her on public order charges.
The defendant was also found in a highly intoxicated state lying on the ground at Quincentennnial Park, Salthill on October 10 last and again had to be arrested for her own safety.
The Court was told that when Gardaí responded to a report of a female behaving erratically in Lower Salthill they found Dervin in a highly intoxicated state. She was foaming at the mouth and refused to comply with the directions of the Gardaí and had to be arrested.
Her defence pleaded that his client had a terrible upbringing but was now a resident of Osterly Lodge in Salthill, a refuge for homeless women. She was attending AA and her Probation officer was proposing a course she may follow. She had suffered a tragedy a year ago and this had contributed to her behaviour.
However, Judge Lydon said that the Court had given the defendant the benefit of the doubt back in July and she was now before the Court again.
She said she would like to see an up-to-date Probation report and if that was favourable she would consider being lenient. The case was adjourned until the November 3 sitting for the preparation of the report.
