GHR Consulting, in conjunction with the Galway Celtic Supporters Club, is organising a Table Quiz on Thursday, October 30, in McGinn’s Hophouse, in memory of their dear friend Eamonn Nugent, who sadly passed away from a brain tumour at just 31 years old.

The event will take place on the first anniversary of his passing, and all money raised will go to Brain Tumour Ireland.

Originally from Glasgow, Eamonn moved to Galway in 2015 as part of his University placement in Ophthalmology studies, where he worked in University Hospital, Galway. He was a gifted musician whose warmth and talent left a lasting legacy in Galway.

One of Eamonn’s main passions in life was traditional Irish music, and with the encouragement of his grandfather, he discovered a love of the bodhran at the age of ten.

After mastering the instrument, he regularly played at Fleadh Cheoil’s all over Ireland. By coincidence, his father, Joseph, informed the congregation at his funeral that his first-ever bodhran had been bought in Galway.

Eamonn was a huge fan of Glasgow Celtic and immersed himself in the local Celtic Supporters Club, where he soon found himself vice-chairperson. Eamonn also engrossed himself in the local trad music scene and was a common fixture, particularly in Taaffes and Tig Cóilí’s.

Eamonn was diagnosed with a high-grade astrocytoma brain tumour in December 2022 after an MRI revealed he had multiple lesions on the brain.

Following surgery, Eamonn began his treatment, and with the help of the Galway Celtic Supporters Club, Eamonn successfully raised over €12,700, which he donated to the Neuro Oncology Research in Beaumont Hospital, where he had his surgery.
