Sinn Féin TD for Galway East, Louis O’Hara, has welcomed news that funding has been allocated to Galway County Council for the purchase of Gort Convent.
Deputy O’Hara said that it is very welcome that funding has finally been allocated to Galway County Council for this iconic building.
“The funding will allow Galway County Council to purchase this building and begin work towards transforming it into a multi purpose community hub.
“Huge credit must go to the Gort Town Team and all the local community organisations in Gort who have really pushed this project forward,” said, adding that this development will be a fantastic addition to Gort town and breathe new life into the town centre.
“Instead of lying idle the building will become a place that everybody in the community can enjoy. I’m looking forward to seeing this project progress in the time ahead,” he concluded.
