A young woman who had already been given a chance when she escaped being put off the road for driving without insurance has found herself before Ballinasloe District Court on a similar charge.
Ciara Griffin, Ballyfa, New Inn pleaded guilty to the charge when she appeared before Judge James Faughnan. Her solicitor pleaded that she had experienced financial difficulties and this was the reason for her failure to obtain insurance.
The Judge was told the defendant had three previous convictions and had been fined in the past for driving without insurance, but a driving disqualification had not been applied on that occasion.
Judge Faughnan told Griffin that she should have learned her lesson and he had no option but to put her off the road for her second no-insurance conviction.
He asked her where she worked and how far her workplace was from her home. She said she worked in a deli in New Inn which was about a five minutes’ drive away.
A fine of €200 and a three-month driving disqualification were imposed. The driving ban is to come into force on November 1st.
