The initial warning is in place until 10pm, with a Yellow wind warning in place nationally until midnight.

High tide at Galway Port is at 3.15pm on Friday, with the tide flowing in again from 9.30pm to high tide at 4am on Saturday morning.

Galway City Council has warned there is potential for flooding of coastal areas, and that the storm may bring localised heavy showers, leading to surface flooding in urban locations.

The council is closing Toft Car Park, Salthill Car Park and Silverstrand Car Park until further notice. The Ballyloughane Beach Road is for local access only until further notice. If the storm intensifies, it is likely that sections of Salthill/Seapoint Promenade and Grattan Road will also be closed.

An orange weather alert means the public is advised to limit travel to essential journeys only in areas where the warning is in place. Essential workers may continue to operate services subject to advice from Met Éireann on prevailing local conditions.

With many trees across the city and county still severely weakened after storms Darragh and Éowyn, more fallen trees are likely.

Met Eireann has warned of likely damage to electricity lines, and possible power outages, difficult travelling conditions, and wave overtopping in coastal areas.

ESB Networks is highlighting the dangers posed by fallen live wires and is advising the public and emergency services to stay away from these fallen cables and to report such cases to it immediately on 1800 372 999. See www.PowerCheck.ie

People are advised to prepare for the arrival of the storm, and ensure mobile phones are fully charged to enable communication.
