‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ is a new campaign being celebrated this World Heart Day, fronted by four-time Olympian and Benecol brand ambassador Sonia O’Sullivan.
In a world where fitness trackers and apps leave one in three people feeling overwhelmed, this campaign strips it back to one number that really matters, your cholesterol. High cholesterol can affect anyone, even an Olympian. Sonia O’Sullivan was surprised to find her cholesterol levels were higher than target levels when tested recently.
Half of Irish adults are affected by high cholesterol, which is a leading cause of coronary heart disease. By knowing your number and taking control, cholesterol becomes one simple number to take control of and improve through daily healthy habits.
Simply eating Benecol foods each day as part of your healthy diet can lower your cholesterol by 7 to 10 per cent within two to three weeks, thanks to the plant stanols in these foods.
Benecol’s ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ campaign aims to alleviate anxiety around cholesterol testing, releasing encouraging research to reveal that 35 per cent of people recently tested found their cholesterol results to be better than expected, versus only 17 per cent receiving results that were worse than expected. Over 80 per cent of respondents felt that health and wellness guidance consisting of a few simple daily habits would motivate them to make changes for the better.
Sonia O’Sullivan explained, “I was delighted to team up with Benecol for their ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ campaign. I recently had my cholesterol tested and was surprised to find it was on the high side. Knowing that high cholesterol affects 1 in 2 Irish people and is a leading cause of coronary heart disease, it’s so important to stay on top of it. Now that I know my number, I feel empowered to lower my cholesterol by incorporating a couple of healthy habits into my everyday life.”
September not only marks World Heart Day, but also Benecol’s 30th birthday. To celebrate, Benecol is running special on-pack giveaways throughout September, including a grand prize of €1,995 and weekly spot prizes. Shoppers simply need to pick up a pack in their local store and scan it to enter.
