Folk with a fresh edge

English and Irish folk traditions will combine when duo Lisa Knapp and Gerry Diver perform at Monroe’s Live on Thursday, October 2, at 8pm.

Known for her inventive approach to folk, Lisa Knapp has been active in the British folk scene since her debut album, Wild & Undaunted.

She has received recognition for her songwriting, including a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for ‘Hidden Seam’, and has worked with acclaimed artists such as Graham Coxon.

More recently, her voice featured in the Oscar-nominated film Living, and she released ‘Blackletter Garland’ as part of the Hack Poets Guild project.

Gerry Diver is an Irish fiddler, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist.

He has worked with a wide range of artists, including Christy Moore, Shane MacGowan, Damon Albarn, and Sinéad O’Connor.

He has also produced contemporary folk albums and composed music for film and television, including BBC dramas.

Together, they present music that draws from traditional folk with a fresh, contemporary edge.

Support on the night is from Galway’s very own Three Rod Wale.

Featuring Jack McHugh and siblings Hannah and Diarmaid Geever, the trio have an affinity for ballads from the British Isles and Appalachian Mountains.
