Not a week goes by without someone in Galway stopping the team at ICE Group to say: “You got me my first job,” “That training course changed my career,” or even “I still remember my first payslip, it had ICE Pay on the top.”

For more than 50 years, ICE Group has been part of the everyday story of Galway people and Galway businesses, helping careers take off, supporting growth, and making the city thrive.

ICE Group began in 1972 as a recruitment company, helping local people find new job opportunities and supporting businesses to hire the talent they needed. A few years later, the company introduced Galway’s first outsourced payroll service, using technology that most SMEs (Small to Medium-sized Enterprises ) could only dream of at the time. By 1982, training had been added to its portfolio, giving people the chance to upskill, reskill, and future-proof their careers. Each step reflected the same goal: helping people and businesses in Galway succeed.

It is not just history that makes the organisation Galway grown, but the team of people who work and live there. Many of its staff have been with the company for more than a decade, bringing loyalty, expertise, and local knowledge to every client they support. More recently, OnSite Interpreting was added to its services, extending the mission to create opportunities by removing language barriers.

In 2020, ICE Group pioneered again by becoming the first organisation in Ireland to introduce a four-day week, giving its people a better work-life balance while maintaining the high standards its clients rely on. This approach has boosted wellbeing, strengthened productivity, and shown that Galway can lead the way in workplace innovation.

According to Elizabeth Cox of ICE Group, “Our story is about people, our clients, our staff, and our communities. We’ve always stepped in to provide support where it’s needed. That’s how we create new opportunities and drive innovation across the west of Ireland and beyond.”

Looking ahead, the company is giving back to the SME community through its free Autumn Webinar Series. The programme will conclude with the BiG* Bang event on Thursday, December 11, where attendees can make valuable connections and hear inspirational speakers share their success stories.
