With low-CO2 green motoring high on all agendas since the introduction of the Government’s new CO2-based motor taxation system in July, Citroën has announced the addition of two more accolades to its already long list of environmental awards.
British motoring publication What Car? has presented Citroën with two awards at its inaugural What Car? Green Awards. The family-friendly C4 Picasso seven- seater has been awarded Green MPV of the Year 2008, while the recently-launched C5 executive saloon has been awarded Green Family Car of the Year 2008.
The new C5 beat off competition from the Mazda 6 and Ford Mondeo to claim the award, thanks mainly to its excellent 1.6HDi 110 engine which offers the ideal balance of economy, low emissions, and power. The C4 Picasso was praised for its 1.6HDi 110 engine also, as well as its advanced EGS gearbox which reduces CO2 emissions.
Editor of What Car, Steve Fowler, commented: “Citroën’s C4 Picasso and new C5 were fully deserving of these Green Awards. Citroën has a growing reputation for producing cars with solid environmental credentials, but that offer comfort, convenience, and quality too.”
Already in 2008, Citroën has been named Best Green Manufacturer by What Diesel?, in addition to receiving the outstanding achievement accolade at the European Green Fleet Awards. Citroen has been named Green Fleet’s Car Manufacturer of the Year for the past two years running.
