A collection of 40 new sculptures, and more than a dozen framed drawings, by John Behan, will open at The Kenny Gallery in Liosbán this Saturday, September 20.
The exhibition, A Terrible Beauty, already available online, will be officially opened by poet Louis de Paor at 2.30pm, and all are welcome to the launch.
The exhibition displays sculptures responding to recent humanitarian crises, with several pieces inspired by the conflict in Gaza. Behan also revisits some of his signature motifs, including sculptures of birds and bulls, embodying freedom, strength and endurance.
Behan is one of Ireland’s most influential artists, having worked for many decades producing countless exhibitions and significant public sculptures across the world. Behan often immerses himself in the cultures of the places he visits, carrying those experiences into his art.
A Terrible Beauty presents a new series of bronze sculptures that reaffirm John Behan’s position as one of Ireland’s foremost sculptors, blending technical mastery with deeply felt narrative.
The exhibition runs until October 21.
