Celebrate Culture Night with over fifty plus free events in the county

Culture Night, an event to celebrate the rich and diverse culture in Ireland, takes place tomorrow Friday, September 19, from 4pm.

Music, theatre, visual arts events, as well as zine-making, photography, crafts and storytelling for all ages are happening throughout the day across Galway city and county, with full details available on culturenight.ie The county council presents Where Light Lingers, a light performance and sound experience at Kylemore Abbey, Connemara, from 8.30pm. It will feature artists Alannah Robins, Aoife Dunne, Gillian O’Shea, Jane Cassidy, Linda Schirmer, Cantairí Chonamara and Youthreach Letterfrack

Artist Talk & Film Screening with Bryan Gerard Duffy and Mohamed Sleiman Labat at Interface, Inagh Valley, and Culture Night Fare with Art Together, Clifden Film Society and Just A Collective at The Square, Clifden are also in the line-up.

Ros na Rún has an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour and information session with the TV drama series at their studio in An Spidéal. The occasion provides an insight into what is involved in the making of a TV series, including viewing sets, production spaces, green room and learning about script writing.

The Marine Institute, Oranmore, has a marine-themed cultural experience, A Night To Sea, celebrating Ireland’s deep connection to the sea. The programme will feature music, spoken word, visual arts, crafts, and storytelling, inspired by the ocean, coastal life, and the communities shaped by our maritime heritage.

Solas Photography Club will host an exhibition of images that reflect the talents and perspectives of members in the foyer of the Marine Institute. The exhibition will showcase a range of works from seascapes to rural scenes to intimate portraits and documentary-style moments captured across the Wild Atlantic Way.

The Mending HeArts project in Ballinasloe offers art workshops in hospitals and community settings for people living with cardiovascular disease and stroke survivors. On Culture Night, audiences will be offered a taste of what happens in the Mending HeArts workshops.

Gorgeous Gort is an exhibition by Gort Arts Group celebrating creativity and community, featuring local artists and others who have more recently made Gort their home. This exhibition is a reminder of how local creativity brings to community life.

South Galway Lakers Special Olympics Club in Loughrea is a club for athletes with intellectual disabilities. They welcome athletes from other neighbouring Special Olympic clubs to join them at their Silent Disco. The event is particularly suited to those who have audio sensitivity.

One Story, Many Voices takes place at the Quiet Man Station in Ballyglunin, celebrating cultural diversity within the local community. The evening features storytelling, spoken word, and music from representatives from diverse ethnic backgrounds who are now part of Ballyglunin and its surrounding areas.
