A man who was challenged by a staff member when he allegedly attempted to leave the Londis store on Newcastle Road, Galway with a box of Carlsberg appeared before Judge Adrian Harris via video-link from prison at Monday’s sitting of Galway District Court.
Martin Ward of Cloonsheen, Kilconly, Tuam is charged with the offence which the Court was told took place on May 15 last.
It is alleged that when the defendant was challenged by staff member Varum Chopra he produced a blade and threatened to kill or cause him serious harm in such a manner that made Mr Chopra believe Ward could carry out these threats. Gardaí were called to the scene and Ward was arrested.
Ward, who is represented by Sean Acton solr., was remanded in custody until the September 15 sitting of the Court to allow for the compiling of a book of evidence.
