In his forthcoming autobiography My Travels with Footsbarn Theatre, Ted Turton offers a vivid and captivating memoir that will resonate deeply with readers in Galway and the West of Ireland, where he has been a key figure in the artistic and cultural life of the region.

Turton’s story is one of creativity, resilience, and bold experimentation — qualities that have shaped both his own life and the broader arts landscape in the West.

His journey spans roles as an artist, designer, photographer, printer, truck driver, publicist, front-of-house maestro, document forger, and even a street performer for the world-renowned Footsbarn Theatre.

With its freewheeling spirit and infectious energy, Footsbarn drew a motley troupe of actors, clowns, musicians, and artists, united by a shared dream: to bring theatre to audiences everywhere — from urban centres to rural villages. Life on the road was no easy ride, but it was filled with passion, purpose, and unforgettable moments.

Through witty anecdotes, rich storytelling, and stunning visuals — including Turton’s own artwork and Leica-captured photographs — this memoir paints a vivid picture of life in a roving theatre company during the 1980s.

This is more than just a tale of theatrical adventure; it is a story of artistic evolution, one that reflects the values and spirit of Galway’s own creative community. For those interested in the roots and rise of cultural life in the West, My Travels with Footsbarn Theatre is a book not to be missed.
