Galway County Council has extended its heartfelt congratulations to the Galway Senior Camogie team and management following their thrilling victory over Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship Final at Croke Park.

In one of the most entertaining and dramatic finals in recent memory, the game was ultimately decided by Galway captain Carrie Dolan’s long distance free in the second minute of injury time, breaking Cork’s bid for three-in-a-row and securing Galway’s first title since 2021.

Cllr. David Collins, Cathaoirleach of the County of Galway, praised the team’s spirit.

“What we witnessed in Croke Park onday was nothing short of remarkable. This Galway team have shown incredible resilience and fight, bouncing back from the heartbreak of last year’s final and overcoming Cork in the most dramatic fashion. They have brought pride and joy to the entire county, and I know every parish and community in Galway will be celebrating this historic win.”

The Cathaoirleach also acknowledged the significance of the achievement given the team’s recent history.

“After defeats to Cork and Tipperary in the past two National League finals and the loss in last year’s All-Ireland decider, this group’s determination to regroup and go all the way in 2025 has been widely admired,” he added. “On behalf of the people of Galway, I thank this very special group for giving us such a wonderful day and for inspiring the next generation of players.”

Liam Conneally, Chief Executive of Galway County Council, commended the players, management and all involved.

He said, “This victory is a testament to the dedication, hard work and never say die attitude of this group. The pride, passion and skill on display in Croke Park was an inspiration to everyone who watched. From the families and clubs that have supported these players, to the communities that have cheered them on, this is a shared success. Days like this are rare, and we should cherish them.”
