The body of a woman was discovered by swimmers in the River Corrib on Tuesday evening. She was found submerged in shallow water just off the slipway at Dangan. The body has been named locally as that of missing woman Catherine O’Connell.
The 49-year-old was discovered at around 8pm. Gardai have ruled out foul play.
The woman lived in Munster Avenue and was last seen in the area at 11.30am on Saturday. Originally from Menlo, she was reported as missing on Monday. Her funeral is being planned for Coolough church, Menlo, but a date has not yet been confirmed.
