Bringing together guitar-driven rock with the influence of trad, incorporating instruments such as the Uilleann pipes and whistles, the Wexford band is continuing its traditional sound with the latest single, Open Water.

Released on the same day as the live performance as part of a six-track EP, it marks the band’s first new single in 12 years and was produced by Grammy-nominated duo Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy.

Formed in 1982 in Wexford, Cry Before Dawn built a strong following throughout the 1980s with music that combined elements of classic rock, punk, new wave, and Irish folk.

Their debut album, Crimes of Conscience, released on CBS in 1987, featured tracks such as ‘Gone Forever’, ‘The Seed That’s Been Sown’, and ‘Girl in the Ghetto’, which brought them national attention.

Fronted by Brendan Wade, the band continues to draw on a wide range of musical influences including The Bothy Band, Planxty, The Clash, Pink Floyd, and The Police.

Known for lyrics that explore personal, social and political themes, Cry Before Dawn’s Monroe’s Live appearance will be an opportunity for Galway audiences to hear their new material and classic songs.
