Clean sweep for Galway ladies

Galway ladies football ensured a clean sweep of Connacht titles with the u-16s being the latest to overcome rivals Mayo.

The Galway side enjoyed a comfortable 3-14 to 1-7 victory, and they now play the Ulster champions Donegal on the weekend of July 26.

The junior team suffered a heavy defeat to Dublin in the Aisling McGing on Sunday - their first defeat all year. They are now in the All Ireland semi-final of that competition and will play Cork on the weekend of August 9, while the minors were due to play Donegal in the All Ireland semi-final last evening.

Galway camogie

Galway edged out Wexford by 3 - 7 to 2 - 6 in their group two qualifier at Wexford Park at the weekend. There was little between these determined sides, and although Wexford enjoyed the better start, Galway came back to ensure the sides were level when Aishling Connolly and Veronica Curtin struck goals just before the break.

When Galway added a third through Brenda Hanney eight minutes after the interval, Galway’s defence stood firm to ensure they took the spoils.
