An exhibition of just 50 of his thousands of photos will be launched in The Kenny Gallery during the Galway International Arts Festival to document the fiftieth anniversary of another stalwart of modern Galway city: the Druid Theatre Company.

The launch will be opened by Sabina Higgins, actress, political activist and wife of President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, on Saturday, July 12, at 2.30pm at The Kenny Gallery. It is free to attend, and all welcome. Joe O’Shaugnessy’s Druid will run until August 14 at the gallery space in Liosbán. Admission is free, and the images are for sale.

Featuring portraits of actors and staff, and photos of productions and events over the years, this remarkable collection of photographs celebrates 50 years of the Druid Theatre Company, founded in Galway city in 1975. O’Shaugnessy’s stunning photographs offer a rare insight into the performances and people, the moments, and the creative energy that have defined the company’s legacy.

Born in Galway, O’Shaugnessy’s interest in photography started when he was at school. His work is now widely recognised for its storytelling power, with numerous national and international awards to his name. He has worked closely with Druid since its founding, and his photographs capture the incredible evolution of Druid to an international force in theatre over the last five decades.
