Exciting leadership role now open in South Connemara for driven, values-based professional

A unique and rewarding opportunity has emerged in the heart of South Connemara for an energetic, compassionate, and values-driven professional who wants to make a real difference in the lives of others. Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – West Region is currently inviting applications for the full-time, permanent position of Area Manager at Bruach na Mara Services, located in the culturally vibrant Connemara Gaeltacht.

This position offers more than just a career move—it is a meaningful opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering high-quality, person-centred care to adults with intellectual disabilities. With services stretching from Furbo to Carraroe, the Area Manager will lead a team dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for service users, ensuring they are supported in living independently, enjoying everyday experiences, and participating fully in their communities.

A role that gives back

Sharon Faherty, the current Area Manager at Bruach na Mara, spoke to the Advertiser about the profoundly fulfilling nature of the role.

“It’s a job that gives you so much more than you can imagine. You’re supporting people to live their best lives, helping them do the everyday things that others may take for granted—going shopping, enjoying a walk, participating in the community,” she said.

Sharon highlighted that the work is not only emotionally rewarding but also supported by excellent training and professional development. “The organisation invests heavily in learning and growth. You are never left on your own—you’re supported by a brilliant team and a strong values-based culture.”

The location alone is a major draw. Set in one of Ireland’s most scenic and culturally rich regions, this role places the successful candidate at the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht. The area boasts breathtaking natural beauty and a strong sense of community. The Irish language is actively celebrated here, making it a unique and inspiring place to work and live.

While proficiency in Irish is desirable, it is not essential—language support is available for those open to learning. The key requirement is a genuine commitment to the values of dignity, respect, and empowerment that underpin the work of the Brothers of Charity Services.

Professionally and personally rewarding role

The successful candidate will take on a pivotal leadership role overseeing services for adults with intellectual disabilities, ensuring high standards of care and advocacy are maintained. Candidates should have at least five years’ management experience in the health or social care sector, hold a relevant professional qualification, be NMBI or CORU registered or eligible for CORU registration by November 2025. A full, clean Irish manual driving licence is also required.

In addition to the meaningful nature of the work, the role offers a strong remuneration package. The salary range is €76,446 to €89,064, aligned with the Department of Health Band 4 scale. The position also includes 28 days of annual leave and all the benefits of a HSE-funded public service post.

“You get out what you put into it,” said Sharon. “This is a role for someone who brings energy, leadership, and a belief in the potential of every individual. You’re helping people live with autonomy, joy, and dignity—it’s a privilege.”

Brothers of Charity Services Ireland is a leading provider of support for people with intellectual disabilities and is committed to promoting inclusion, equality, and respect.
