FROM GIGANTIC toy blocks, six dancers will emerge, and through their movements they will construct and restructure the blocks in a riot of dance, movement, mystery, and imagination.
This is Block Party, the new show by the Dance Theatre of Ireland, which will be performed on Spanish Parade, Spanish Arch, on Thursday July 23 at 1pm and 3pm, as part of the Galway Arts Festival.
Merging dance, music, and architecture, Block Party will immerse Galway audiences in a vibrant world of colour and play, set to explosive percussion played live by Brian Fleming, Hugh O’Byrne, and Kevin Curran.
Block Party is choreographed by Robert Connor and Loretta Yurick, design is by Andrew Clancy, and costumes are by Nicola McCutcheon. The dancers are Adam Murphy, Kat Doherty, Mirjam Gurtner, Sandro Franchini, Cosimo de Tommaso, and Khyle Eccles.
“DTI have been on tour with Block Party since April,” said Dance Theatre of Ireland co-artistic director Loretta Yurick. “It's been great performing this free outdoor work for so many people! We’re delighted to be coming to Galway with this show, the art capital of Ireland and afterwards, we let young and old alike play on the blocks.”
