Galway East TD and Minister of State Seán Canney confirmed a €3.83million allocation for primary and secondary schools across Galway.
This includes €2.03 million for Information Communication Technoloy (ICT ) infrastructure to enhance digital learning, and €1.8 million in Minor Works Grants to support essential maintenance in primary and special schools.
“This will allow our schools to carry out critical maintenance and upgrade works, while also ensuring they have the technology and digital infrastructure required to support 21st-century learning,” he said.
This funding is the third tranche of ICT grants under the Government’s Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027 initiative. It provides for investment in digital devices, teaching platforms, and software to enhance how students learn and teachers deliver lessons.
The works grants are for buildings, grounds, heating, ventilation, furniture, and classroom equipment in Galway’s primary and special schools.
The ICT allocation includes a €2,000 base payment per school, plus a per-pupil allocation, with additional supports for DEIS and special education settings. The Minor Works Grant provides a €5,500 base payment, with additional funding per pupil.
