Bit of fun at Outset

The first solo exhibition of 2025 at the Outset Gallery features a new series of works by photographer Niamh Swanton.

It’s All a Bit of Fun (Until Somebody Gets Hurt ) opens tomorrow, Friday, May 23, at the gallery on Middle Street.

The performative photographer will give a talk at Outset on Saturday, June 7, to discuss her exploration into symbolism and humour with Meadhbh McNutt, who authored the exhibition text. On Saturday, June 21, at 11am, Outset Gallery presents Memory, Myth & Make Believe, a full-day creative workshop led by Swanton.

This immersive workshop invites participants to explore the space between memory, myth, and make-believe through journaling and staged photography. Drawing from Swanton’s practice, known for its playful yet emotionally resonant approach to storytelling, participants will be guided through imaginative exercises to transform personal history and symbolic narratives into expressive visual works.

Open to all experience levels, the workshop includes artist-led demonstrations, guided creative exploration, peer collaboration, and an informal sharing session. Participants are encouraged to bring personal materials or objects tied to their memories or identity to use in their photographic creations.

Spaces are limited. See Eventbrite for details.
