Older and people with disabilities in Galway City and County will be empowered to stay in their homes independently for longer with €117 million for Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and Disabled People nationwide, said a Fine Gael Minister.
Minister with Responsibility for Disability, Hildegarde Naughton TD, said funding of €5,299,133 for Galway highlights the government’s commitment to supporting older people and those with disabilities remain in their homes.
She said that it is fantastic to see a 26% increase in this grant for 2025, showing the Government’s continued commitment to supporting older people and those with disabilities.
“This funding will help empower Galway City and County Council to further assist older and disabled individuals in living independently within their own homes.
“This funding will ensure 13,000 older people and disabled people to live independently in their own homes across Ireland, many of them in Galway,” she said.
Minister Naughton said that she has met many grant recipients across Galway and has witnessed first-hand the huge difference it has made in empowering older and disabled people to live independently at home in their own communities for longer.
“I also want to thank Galway City and County Councils who work hard to administer the grants, assess applications and arrange home inspections where adaptations are proposed.
“Fine Gael will always fight for people with disabilities and older people, particularly when it comes to housing. Our party is committed to supporting people who need it most, and this funding is a key example of this”, concluded Minister Naughton.
