Around €142,000 worth of herbal cannabis and gummies, and smaller quantities of other drugs, were confiscated during a search of a house in Renmore on Friday as part of Operation Tara, designed to disrupt street-level dealing in urban areas across the country.

The Galway Divisional Drugs Unit discovered approximately 2kg of cannabis, along with 5kg of a cannabis-type hemp, and a bag of more than 200 pre-rolled spliffs.

Boxes of cannabis-infused jellies and chocolate, as well as vapes and oil, were also seized. Smaller quantities of cocaine and MDMA were also recovered. The total estimated street value of the seizure is €142,000. All will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested and detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He was subsequently released, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A garda spokesperson said investigations were ongoing.
