On Wednesday 30th April, we celebrate International Noise Awareness Day, which aims to raise awareness of the harmful effects of noise on hearing, health and quality of life. At Hidden Hearing, we don’t just provide hearing aids; we focus on comprehensive care and are committed to raising awareness and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their hearing health.
Protecting your Hearing
Q: What are the early warning signs of hearing loss?
A: Asking people to repeat themselves, struggling to hear conversations in noisy settings, constantly turning up the TV, or hearing ringing in your ears are all red flags. If you notice any of these, act early and book a free hearing test.
Q: How loud is too loud?
A: If you can’t hear someone talking to you at arm’s length while wearing headphones, it’s too loud. We recommend the 60/60 rule – 60 minutes listening at 60% volume.
Q: Is it worse to wear headphones in noisy environments?
A: Absolutely. People often turn the volume up to drown out background noise—like on buses, trains, or in busy streets. This dramatically increases the risk of hearing damage. If you must listen in noisy places, consider noise-cancelling headphones.
Remember, your hearing doesn’t have a reset button but with a few simple changes, you can continue enjoying the sounds you love - without damaging your ears in the process.
Hidden Hearing provide FREE hearing tests across 85 clinics nationwide. We are also offering FREE earwax removal (normally €70 ) for the remainder of April. Call our local Galway clinic on 091 539 230 to secure today.
