Retirees gather to reminisce about working in Eglinton Street on Friday May 23, 2025 at 7:30pm in the Menlo Park Hotel.
The function in May will be the fifth Get Together of the retired staff. The organising committee of Chairman Nicholas Lyons, Secretary Michael Irwin and Treasurer Ray Kelly together with members Susan and Walter McDonagh, Nora Flaherty, Imelda Tierney, Eva Feeney, Áine Brennan, Pat McDonagh, Donal Lyons, George Guest and Adrian Harney have been busy making the arrangements.
Over the coming weeks the organising committee will be personally contacting former members who worked in An Post or Eircom inviting them to the reunion. The previous reunions were very well attended and it is expected that the event in May will also be a huge success. At one time over 500 people worked in the Post Office in Eglinton Street prior to the establishing of the two Semi-State companies in 1984. There is still a great bond of friendship between the former workers and although the numbers now employed in both An Post and EIR have dwindled, the retirees look back fondly on their own time with in the Post Office in Eglinton Street.
The organising committee is also seeking sponsorship and spot prizes for the night. Anyone wishing to help in this regard is asked to contact any of the organising committee members.
Tickets for the event which this year is a full set down meal are available from any committee member and are priced at €30.
