County Galway's accordion maestro, Johnny Óg Connolly, is to be honoured for his contributions to traditional Irish music and culture at this year’s Gradam Ceoil TG4 awards.
Connolly was awarded the coveted Cumadóir award for composition, and his music will now be featured at Ireland’s programming at the upcoming World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
The recipients of Gradam Ceoil were officially unveiled at a special event held at Iveagh House, in Dublin, last week, ahead of TG4's televised ceremony on May 4, in Limerick.
Now in its 28th year, Gradam Ceoil TG4 acknowledges the best in performance and cultural impact across seven categories. Its honourees exemplify the dedication and innovation that ensure traditional Irish music flourishes for future generations.
Other award recipients were musician Siobhán Peoples, singer Cathy Jordan, music group Flook, young musician Colm Broderick, Áine Hensey for the Outstanding Contribution award, and a lifetime achievement honour for Matt Cranitch.
