The Japanese Film Festival of Ireland will return for its 16th edition in April, with a line-up of films exhibiting the best of Japanese cinema for Galway audiences.

This national showcase includes a select programme for the Eye Cinema in Wellpark, from Wednesday April 9, to Saturday, April 12.

Screenings are also taking place in Dublin, Cork, Dundalk, Sligo, Waterford, Wexford, Bray and Ballina.

The Galway leg off the festival kicks off next Wednesday with a screening of Cottontail. This debut feature from director Patrick Dickinson, who draws influence from the gentle dramas of Hirokazu Koreeda, is a story about family, reconciliation and Beatrix Potter, featuring a central, moving performance from Koreeda regular Lily Franky.

The Eye will showcase a range of titles over four days of screenings.

A Samurai In Time, is a delightful, fish-out-of-water comedy, which has been a box office smash in Japan. It won Best Film at this year’s Japan Academy Film Awards.

Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window, is the anime adaptation of Tetsuko Kuroyanagi’s beloved and best-selling memoir that is certain to make audiences laugh and cry.

The vibrant and hilarious new anime Ghost Cat Anzu is about a giant walking-and-talking cat who lives his life just like a human.

The Embassy of Japan and Access>Cinema, supported by the Arts Council, are co-organisers of the Festival.
