Sinn Féin TD for Galway East, Louis O’Hara, has been informed by the HSE that the tender for the planned Primary Care Centre in Portumna still has not been re-advertised.

Last November the HSE stated that they had terminated the agreement with the developer contracted to deliver the project, and O’Hara has said that it is disappointing that the tender has not yet been re-advertised.

Deputy O’Hara said the planned Primary Care Centre in Portumna, initially approved in 2018 with €200,000 allocated in the 2021 Capital Programme, has faced many setbacks and delays.

“Last November the HSE informed me that they had terminated the agreement with the developer contracted to deliver the project. This came as a huge blow to the local community who had previously been promised that the project would be delivered by June 2024,” he said.

“I raised this issue with the HSE at a meeting held last week and was informed that the tender would be re-advertised in Q2 of this year (April-June ). It is disappointing that the tender still has not been advertised following the termination of the previous agreement.

“Given the lengthy delays in this project there must be urgency from the HSE in progressing it. It is critical for the health and wellbeing of the local community and must be a priority,” added Dep O’Hara, who concluded by saying that he will continue to raise this project and the need for it to be progressed as quickly as possible.
