The Portaferry native, whose voice has been compared to Paolo Nutini and early Tom Waits, is widely regarded as one of the most exciting Ulster artists to emerge in recent years.

McMullan’s career has seen him perform in major venues worldwide, supporting Ed Sheeran on stadium tours, and selling out headline shows across Europe.

However in 2022, just as he was set to release Redesign, he stepped away from music due to a personal mental health crisis.

Speaking openly about the challenges he faced during and after lockdown, McMullan described how therapy, and time away from touring, helped him reconnect with both music and himself.

His return to performing in 2023 reignited his passion, leading to the release of Redesign last August.

The album, shaped by both personal and musical reflection, brings together upbeat, pop-laden tracks like ‘Bowie on the Radio’ and ‘Real Love’, with more introspective songs such as ‘Flailing’ and ‘Monarch’.

Produced by Seán Óg Graham of Beoga, the record captures a fresh direction for the artist while remaining true to his roots.

In February 2025, McMullan released his latest single, ‘Jenny and Johnny’, a track that highlights his ability to craft heartfelt narratives with relatable emotions. The song tells the story of two people caught in a cycle of self-sabotage, despite being destined for love.

In support of his new release and debut album, McMullan will embark on a Britain and Ireland tour this April, followed by dates in Australia and Europe in May.

His performance at Monroe’s Live on Tuesday, April 15, offers Galway audiences the chance to experience his latest work in an intimate setting.

Support on the night is from Donegal alt-folk artist Declan McClafferty, better known as Ramper, who has also opened for artists of such calibre as Lisa Hannigan and the Scratch. He previously played in the award-winning Donegal band, In Their Thousands, before embarking on a solo career.
