In this collection of short essays titled Do Not Try to Become a Buddha, Irish Soto Zen priest Myozan Ian Kilroy describes the challenges of establishing a Zen Buddhist community in Catholic-dominated Ireland.

The collection, which covers how Kilroy came to practise Zen, and introduces some basics of Zen philosophy, will be launched in Charlie Byrne's Bookshop tomorrow, Friday March 14, at 6pm.

At the launch, Rev Myozan will explore the rituals and practices that Zen brings to everyday life, from holidays and weddings, to birth ceremonies and funerals.

A former journalist, Rev Myozan's clear yet entertaining storytelling style paints a picture of how Zen has adapted to the culture and traditions of Ireland.
