Incredible Edibles, Agri Aware’s flagship primary school healthy eating programme, has begun in primary schools across Ireland this week.
Now in its 18th year, the programme is being undertaken by more than 68,000 primary school students around Ireland.
Incredible Edibles is an experience-based healthy eating project for primary schools. The programme shows children how to grow fruits and vegetables, learn about where food comes from and the importance of quality sustainable food.
The programme has undergone some changes for 2025, with the number of tasks reduced from five to four, the addition of quizzes and the return of a new look “school of the month” competition.
The programme also highlights the important role that fresh produce plays in a healthy balanced diet and the importance of consuming at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.
Speaking ahead of the primary school students beginning their healthy eating journey was Agri Aware executive director, Marcus O’Halloran who said: “Incredible Edibles is a hugely popular programme in primary schools, proven by the fact that it is now going into its 18th year of delivery.
“There have been some changes to the programme this year with refreshed tasks, fun quizzes, and a School of the Month competition which will give students a chance to be rewarded for all their efforts with each task.
“We are confident that the changes and new additions to the programme this year will further engage students in the programme and make it an even more enjoyable experience.
“The importance of primary school students knowing where their food comes is vital to ensure students not only appreciate the work that goes into producing food from a young age in this country but also making good choices regards their eating habits.
“I’d like to thank our sponsors for their continued support of the programme and we look forward to seeing all students registered to the programme on their Incredible Edibles journey over the coming months.”
