Galway City Council issues €450,000 in arts organisation grants

Galway City Council has awarded grants totalling €450,000 to the city’s arts organisations for 2025.

At the City Council meeting of 10 February 2025; elected members and officials were unanimous in their praise for the essential contribution to the city’s arts scene by the artists, arts workers and organisations of the city.

The Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Peter Keane observed that this investment in the arts in Galway was made possible as a result of the Local Property Tax increase which had been agreed in late 2024.

Funding was allocated to support Galway City’s professional arts organisations and community, voluntary & amateur organisations (CVA ), for the Arts Act Grant Funding for 2025, representing an increase of €50,000 since 2024.

As a member of the Arts Grants Evaluation Committee, Cllr Níall McNelis, discussed the evaluation process that involved collaboration between Galway City Council Reserve and Executive team, as well as external evaluators.

He reiterated that the City is firm and long-lasting in its commitment to local arts and artists noting that many organisations were celebrating anniversary years in 2025, including Cuirt, Druid and 126 Art Gallery and Studios.

Galway has a world reputation as a creative place thanks to the innovative and imaginative work of its great artmakers. Galway City Council values the powerful projects and programmes delivered right throughout the city in participation, access and diversity. The grants to fifty-eight artist-led organisations will help keep them in business, reward them for the great work achieved and ensure continuity of programming.
