If you’ve ever found yourself with questions about your fertility, unsure where to turn, or simply curious about your reproductive health, ReproMed Fertility Clinic in Knocknacarra has an opportunity you won’t want to miss. Until the end of February, the clinic is offering free 15-minute mini-consultations conducted over the phone with one of ReproMed's experienced fertility nurses.

A company rooted in patient care, ReproMed's new initiative aims to inform, empower, and support anyone who wants to better understand their fertility and reproductive health.

“These calls are about bridging the gap between the unknown and the facts,” explained ReproMed Galway's nursing manager, Jenny McCarthy. “We aim to remove stigma, shed light on the realities of fertility, and empower people with accurate information.”

A legacy of fertility care in Galway

ReproMed, previously known as Galway Fertility Unit, has been a cornerstone of reproductive healthcare in Galway since the mid-1990s. Joining the ReproMed family in 2015, it became the only clinic in the west of Ireland to offer a full IVF laboratory. Over the years, the clinic has helped thousands of heterosexual couples, same-sex couples, and single women on their journeys to parenthood through treatments such as In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF ), Intrauterine Insemination (IUI ), and egg freezing.

The clinic’s mission goes beyond treatments. ReproMed is dedicated to empowering women to take control of their reproductive health, providing a wealth of knowledge and support at every step. With four fertility experts, an experienced lab team, and a compassionate nursing staff, Repromed has built a reputation for care that combines cutting-edge science with empathy and dignity.

A special invitation to learn and explore

The free mini-consultation programme, led by ReproMed’s skilled nurses, offers anyone with fertility questions a chance to connect in a comfortable, supportive environment. Jenny McCarthy, nursing manager at ReproMed, highlights the programme’s focus on providing clarity and reassurance.

“The subjects discussed in these 15-minute consultations are entirely up to the patient,” Jenny explains. “They can ask any questions, whether they are curious about their cycle, are looking for advice on tracking ovulation, considering treatments, or are just beginning their fertility journey. The goal is to clear away uncertainty and fears about the unknown.”

Jenny emphasises that the consultations are designed to be judgment-free and accessible. “Patients don’t need to commit to any treatments or further steps. It’s simply an opportunity to explore their concerns with a professional who truly listens.”

The heart of fertility nursing

For Jenny, who transitioned from ICU nursing to fertility care during the COVID-19 pandemic, this work is deeply personal. Her passion for women’s healthcare and her diploma in the field have fueled her dedication to empowering patients.

“It’s a privilege to be there from the very beginning for my patients,” she says. “From that first phone call to providing support during treatments, it’s incredible to walk alongside them on their journey.

"As the saying goes 'people may not remember your name but they remember how you made them feel', and that is what our nurses do for our patients in the clinic.

"We are the heart of the clinic. We are present every step of the way, from the initial consult to whatever the outcome, we are there seeing our patients through every part of their fertility treatments and care."

Jenny’s team of nurses are more than just medical professionals; they are trusted confidants who understand the emotional highs and lows that come with fertility care.

“In fertility, the highs are very high, and the lows are very, very low,” she notes. “Supporting patients through those moments—whether it’s celebrating a pregnancy scan or offering comfort after difficult news—is at the core of what we do.”

Why a mini-consultation?

Fertility is a vast and complex world that can feel overwhelming, especially for those just starting on their journey. Jenny recognises that social media and misinformation often heighten fears and misconceptions, making the journey seem even more daunting.

“These calls are about bridging the gap between the unknown and the facts,” Jenny explains. “We aim to remove stigma, shed light on the realities of fertility, and empower people with accurate information.”

Whether it’s understanding ovulation tracking, exploring treatment options, or addressing concerns and nerves surrounding conception after miscarriage, these mini-consultations are tailored to each individual’s needs.

“Sometimes people just need someone neutral to talk to,” Jenny says. “Others may be seeking specific advice or are just considering having children. Whatever the reason, we’re here to listen, guide, and support them.”

Education and empowerment

An organisation that is embedded into Galway life, having spent decades helping to bring the next generations of Galwegians into the world, ReproMed is passionate about its mission to educate and empower people to take control of their reproductive destiny. The newly launched mini-consultation sessions continue ReproMed's mission of making fertility care and education accessible to all.

It follows successful recent initiatives led by ReproMed, including a campaign to provide free AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone ) tests to women in Galway. The results of these tests were explained over the phone by the clinic's nurses, as a result, participants gained valuable insight into their fertility in future by learning about their ovarian reserve. Another similar education campaign led by ReproMed aptly titled, Empower Her, was an educational presentation performed by the clinic's team to female professionals in Galway. Delivered as part of the company's ethos to empower and educate, the presentation provided life-changing insight for participants, providing them with the tools and the knowledge to take control of their reproductive destiny.

“There is a gap in information and understanding fertility and reproductive health,” Jenny says. “Our work aims to fill that gap by sharing information with people and to give them the tools to take control of their fertility.

“As a result of our AMH testing programmes, women who knew nothing about ovarian reserve got to learn about their body's fertility levels for the first time,” Jenny recalls. “For those in their late 30s who want children but are unsure about the future, this information was invaluable. It’s about planning ahead and ensuring they always have options.”

Building trust and relationships

The mini consultations also allow ReproMed to showcase who they are as a clinic and as a 'fertility family'.

"The mini-consultations provide an opportunity for us to introduce our clinic, ReproMed and who we are as a fertility family in a pressure-free, non-judgemental service.

“We want patients to feel they can trust us, that we’re here for them every step of the way,” Jenny shares. “From answering questions to providing emotional support, we aim to build relationships based on empathy, trust, and respect.

Take the first step

If you’ve ever felt uncertain about your fertility, ReproMed’s free mini-consultation programme is your chance to gain clarity and confidence. The 15-minute calls are open to everyone—single individuals, couples, those planning for the future, or those ready to take their next steps.

“This is about creating awareness and empowering people to take control of their reproductive health,” Jenny says. “We want to provide the tools and support they need to make informed decisions.

“Ultimately, for us, it is about giving people the tools and empowering and equipping them to take control of their fertility and plan for the future. It is about ensuring that people have opportunities and choices to do what is best for them."
