Get involved in the future of Salthill, implores Lyons

Galway City West Area Councillor Donal Lyons is appealing this week to Salthill residents/businesses/swimmers/public to participate and engage in events that Galway City Council has planned for the future development of Salthill.

Councillor Lyons stated that the Council has commenced the preparation of a Salthill Village and Seafront Framework Plan, in line with the requirements of Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029 (Policy 10.3 Salthill ).

The Plan will be a vision document for Salthill which will support the implementation of a range of national and local policy priorities in particular building climate resilience, supporting compact growth, health and wellbeing and sustainable mobility. A number of engagement events will be held commencing this week as follows:

(Thursday, February 6 Salthill Business Community from 4pm to 6pm in the Salthill Hotel.

Friday, February7 Salthill Swimmers from 11am to 1.30pm in Blackrock.

Friday, February 21 Residents from 4pm to 8pm in the Salthill Hotel.

Saturday February 22 Pop Up Survey from 1.30am to 4pm along Salthill Promenade.

There are four Special Objectives relating to Salthill in the Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029.

Prepare a strategy for the long development and enhancement of the character of Salthill Village and Promenade which provides for guidelines for good urban design and the development of high quality architectural standards for new developments and redevelopments.

Carry out an environmental improvement scheme for Salthill including for the upgrade of the Promenade.

Upgrade public facilities including provision of outdoor/indoor showers, changing facilities, toilets and supports for water based activities.

Support proposals for the development of a destination tourism and recreational attraction at the Leisureland and Salthill Park sites with the potential to provide modern, purpose built recreation, civic and cultural facilities to serve the city and region.

“It is vital that residents, clubs, businesses and organisations in the greater Salthill area become actively involved in the engagement process states Cllr. Lyons. This is a great opportunity to plan the future development of Salthill,” he said.
