Energy, cooking and craft events at Ballybane Community Hub

A range of varied events and classes will be held at the Ballybane Community Hub next month.

The hub is hosting Galway Energy Co Operative (the SEAI sustainable energy authority Ireland mentors for Galway city ) to highlight the benefits of a sustainable energy community on February 4 at 7.30pm.

The agenda aims to cover several topics including:

— Highlighting the SEAI mentor service and how it can benefit the community.

—Detailing how to avail of an energy master plan to determine Ballybane community needs and identity opportunities including SEAI community grants.

— opportunities from other grant sources (either as a community or individually ) and solar meitheals

— Gaining a better understanding of the housing stock in various parts of Ballybane with a view to planning your journey.

— Detailing of the home energy upgrade loan scheme and other financing options.

The event is intended for anyone living in the Ballybane area but people from neighbouring communities are also welcome.

In separate events, there will be a free cookery demonstration and tasting, where participants can learn how to make delicious homemade lasagne and garlic bread. The event will be hosted by chef Maria McNeela from Rustic Grub on Thursday February 6 at 6.30pm.

The hub is located at 30 Béal Srutha, Ballybane. Parking is available adjacent to the Ballybane Library and all are welcome.

Ballybane Youth Shed will hold arts and crafts classes for teens from 13 to 18yrs, at the Ballybane Community Hub, starting Saturday February 8 for five weeks from 2-4pm

The classes are free and a deposit of €50 is required and will be refunded upon completion of classes to avoid non attendance.

All materials supplied and attendance is limited to eight per class.
