Join a club in 2025

Start the new year off right by joining a Galway club that will connect you with those who share the same interests. From kayaking to reading, there is something out there for everyone.

Book club:

Charlie Byrnes has an array of book clubs available once a month for those who would like to read and discuss with others. At each meeting the book clubs have a friendly and relaxed (but rousing ) chat about the the chosen book for that month. There is a ten per cent discount for the book of the month. The clubs are a mix of men and women, ages 20 to 70, and always welcome new members of all ages, genders, and reading tastes.

Kayaking club:

Galway Kayaking Club are a local club run by voluntary members, who share a wide variety of skills in many paddle-sports disciplines including sea kayaking, marathon, playboating, canoeing, white-water and canoe polo. There is some type of paddling for everyone, from those who are really competitive to those who just want to have some fun. Club members will have access to all club equipment and a range of different types of kayaks and canoes.

Walking club:

The Oyster Walking Club was formed in January 2004, and is a small and friendly group of about 40 members. Based in the Clarinbridge area, they aim to promote hill-walking and enjoyment of the Galway countryside. The Oyster Walking Club walk on Sundays in the Burren, Connemara, and nearby counties and islands. The walks range from easy flat walks to challenging hill walks, and include the occasional organised weekend away overseas. Annual membership is required and new members are always welcome.

Dodgeball club:

Galway Dodgeball Club are a social club established to bring people together to play dodgeball and have great nights out. No previous experience is needed to join the club, and the weekly Tuesday meetings sometimes end in a pub session. They aim to challenge the growing Dublin Dodgeball Club, bring down the venerable Waterford Club and defeat the mighty Belfast teams, then go out afterwards and have an absolute blast. Nothing brings people together like dodgeball.

Martial arts club:

The Exiles Galway are part of an international network of Medieval martial artists studying Fiore. They are based in Salthill and are open to anyone over the age of 18 who would like to study sword fighting. The Exiles in Galway will teach you the skills involved in life-or-death combat, just as those who were originally trained, such as unarmed striking and grappling, dagger attack and defence, longsword in one and two hands and working with poleaxe and spear weapons. They are always welcoming new members.
