Three Masters of Irish Music unite

Three masters of Irish music will come together for a unique collaboration at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, February 15, for a fully seated show from 7:30pm.

The legendary Paddy Keenan of The Bothy Band on pipes and whistles, celebrated Donegal accordionist Dermot Byrne, and guitarist and accordionist Tim Edey will unite to honour the rich tradition of Irish music.

Often described as the piper’s piper, Paddy Keenan is renowned as one of the most exciting traditional musicians in the world, and became a founding member of The Bothy Band.

Over his illustrious career, spanning more than three decades, Keenan has redefined traditional Irish music with his innovative approach and willingness to take risks.

His performances have drawn high praise, with Tim O’Brien describing his music as “like water from a holy well,” and Zina Lee of Celtic Café hails him simply as “the best of the best”.

Hailed as one of the most versatile musicians in the folk and Celtic music scene, Tim Edey has garnered accolades including the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Musician of the Year and BBC Scotland/Alba Musician of the Year.

Known for his passion and musical sensitivity, Edey has collaborated with industry legends such as The Chieftains, Sharon Shannon, and Dougie McLean.

Sharon Shannon aptly describes him as having “a ferocious passion and a beautiful tenderness, perpetually shining out through his music”.

Born into the music heartland of southwest Donegal, Dermot Byrne is revered for his exceptional skill on the button accordion and melodeon. With a deep understanding of Donegal’s music heritage, Byrne is celebrated as one of the world’s finest accordionists.

His ability to navigate any style or key is nothing short of extraordinary.

This evening at Monroe’s Live will showcase the interplay between Keenan, Byrne and Edey.

Together, they create an experience that captures the soul of Irish traditional music.

This is a chance to witness three of Irish music’s finest talents in Galway on Saturday, February 15, for a fully seated show in Monroe’s from 7:30pm.
