International participants have been confirmed for the Tribesmen rowing time trial event taking place on the River Corrib on March 15.

Minneapolis USA are sending a men's four team consisting of former US national team members to compete against Irish national champions, Cork. University of Galway will hope their fast combinations make this contest into a thriller.

In the junior men's category, local rivals Coláiste Iognáid ('Jes' ) and St. Joseph ('Bish' ) face stiff competition from LaSalle High School in Pennsylvania, USA. LaSalle have produced seven Olympic rowers and are sending two strong eights to the competition.

The men's master eights competition will hope to follow on from the dramatic showdown at last autumn's World Masters Rowing Championships in Berlin, where Ireland edged out France in a nail-biting finish. French crew, Grand League Est, are coming to Galway with revenge in their sights.

The women's master eights will feature an intriguing clash between the UK's Monmouth Rowing Club and Endeavour Racing Alliance from the USA. Monmouth, who are a strong force in European and World Masters regattas, have faced stern competition in Endeavour who won the Head of Charles in Boston a boast a squad of former Olympians and US national team members.

World champion and club captain of Tribesmen Rowing Club, Siobhán MacCrohan expressed her excitement at the prospect of Irish teams facing international competition in the event.

"'Tribesmen Head of the River' gives Irish crews the opportunity to race against top-class international crews right here in Galway," she said. "We're really looking forward to it."

"Galway on St. Patrick’s weekend is something special and having a top-class rowing event adds to the allure. Combining both makes THOR a really attractive proposition to international crews," added Colin Hanley, club president of Tribesmen Rowing Club.
