The inaugural juniors only K-1/Kickboxing event, 'The Clash At Clonboo' took place in Regans Lounge, Clonboo on Sunday, January 19.

Galway Black Dragon Gym had 14 fighters in action, coming away with seven victories including two promotional titles.

There was a total of 38 young fighters participating ranging from six to 17 years of age. Fighters from Cavan, Limerick, Mayo, Ballinasloe, Templemore, Stradbally, Shannon, and Galway Black Dragon locked horns in 19 fights across the afternoon.

Moycullen's Itza Daril defeated Mollie O'Riordan from Limerick Hub by unanimous decision in the first title fight. The 12-year-old was made to work for it in a blistering contest that went the full three rounds.

Colm Perry of Castlepark defeated Anthony Conway in the second title fight of the event. It was another tightly contested bout that went the distance with Perry showcasing some technical boxing with fast, snappy kicks and some excellent knee strikes in the clinch.

'The Clash At Clonboo' was the first event of its kind in Ireland where the focus was on junior fighters only in a theatre setting. The ballroom at Regan's Lounge swapped dancing for a boxing ring Sunday afternoon.

The organisers of the event, Galway Black Dragon Gym, paid a special thanks to owners Miko and Eileen Regan, new proprietor Councillor James Charity, and main sponsor Tony Kelly from TK Car Sales.
