The launch of Garraí na Gaoithe, Claregalway, provided welcome relief to new home buyers when it launched in late 2024. This is an exceptional new homes scheme by DAMREE Developments, featuring 72 new, privately owned homes. These stylish and contemporary two, three and four bedroom, A rated houses, located in Claregalway village, bring a much needed influx of new homes to Galway with the first occupants expected to receive their keys in early 2025.

Phase 1, consisting of 29 houses, was launched to market in October 2024 with 17 of these being made available through the Affordable Purchase Scheme in association with DAMREE Developments and Galway County Council. The remaining 12 houses were launched to market simultaneously by DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard which reports unprecedented levels of interest in the units. “We were overwhelmed by the levels of interest in the launch of these houses,” said Mairead Leonard, managing director of DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard. “The response clearly demonstrates the need for housing in the city and county.”

The 17 affordable units have also now all been allocated to purchasers who will enter an Affordable Dwelling Purchase Arrangement with Galway County Council.

Claregalway is a vibrant village strategically located north of Galway city on the banks of the River Clare. Sitting within the commuter belt of Galway city, Claregalway is a popular place to live, not least due to the rich cultural and sporting activities available to residents but also the host of amenities available in the local area along with excellent primary and secondary schools. Claregalway provides easy access to the economic hub of Galway's industrial estates located in Parkmore. Oranmore village is just 8km away, as is access to the M6 motorway.

The site layout has been thoughtfully designed to include many walkways, two separate play areas and lots of open green spaces, ideal for young families. The houses will be A rated with air-to-water heat pumps, providing optimal energy efficiency and value for money. Internally all houses will be finished with modern fitted kitchens, stylish tiling to wet areas in kitchens and bathrooms and fitted wardrobes in main bedrooms.

Selling agent Fergal Leonard, MIPAV, TRV, MMCEPI, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in the launch of such an exciting scheme in Galway. We’re all aware of the pressures in the housing market at present due to the lack of supply, so Garrai na Gaoithe is a much needed influx of supply.

"As expected, the response to the development has been overwhelming with houses being snapped up, and we expect similar levels of interest with the launch of subsequent phases," he added. "These levels of interest are a reflection on the demand for affordable housing, demand for high quality new homes and an overall demand for housing in the market."

While the launch date for Phase 2 of the homes in Garrai na Gaoithe has yet to be confirmed, it is expected to be in Q1 2025. “The best advice we can offer to prospective buyers is to be prepared,” according to Leonard. “I would advise anyone considering applying for an affordable home through Galway County Council to start gathering all the relevant information now and as soon as the portal opening date is announced be ready to go.”
