The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP ) in the Galway area is facing a shortage of volunteers and is appealing to the public to join their ranks.
SVP is dedicated to addressing poverty through practical solutions. The organisation offers individuals and families direct and personal assistance. Family visitation enables a connection to find out where help is needed and offer support by friendship, information and financial assistance, Respecting the dignity of every individual is fundamental to the approach.
Clients are offered support and advice in a spirit of trust, confidentiality, and friendship, helping individuals maintain their dignity as they move towards a more self-sufficient future. SVP offers a hand up not a handout.
The organisation, which has conferences (branches ) throughout city and county, warns that a continued decline in membership will ultimately impact the range and quality of services the Society can offer to those in need. The Society welcomes volunteers from all walks of life to join the organisation. No special skills are required, just a willingness to give a few hours a week to help others. When you volunteer with SVP you become part of the largest and oldest voluntary charitable organisation in Ireland. SVP’s greatest strength is their volunteers.
The SVP offers a rewarding experience for volunteers, providing an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people in need within your local community. All new members will receive comprehensive training and support.
