Celebrate the arts in the Gaeltacht

TO CELEBRATE the 10th anniversary of Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo, a series of cultural events will take place in Galway from September 25 to 27.

Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo is a partnership founded in 1998 by The Arts Council and Údarás na Gaeltachta to develop the arts in the Gaeltacht. The public will get a taste of various projects supported through this partnership, and artists from all over the Gaeltacht will have the opportunity to get together, share their experiences, and ideas.

On Thursday September 25 at 7.30pm, the official launch will take place in the Connemara Coast Hotel.

On Friday 26 at 10am in the Park Lodge Hotel a debate on the arts in the Gaeltacht, entitled The future and the challenges ahead, will be held as Gaeilge. At 1.30pm Fíbín puppet theatre will present Stair na hÉireann – Cineál in the Park Lodge Hotel.

Aniar, Aneas, Aduaidh, an exhibition of visual art from the Gaeltacht over the last 10 years will be opened in the Galway City Museum at 4pm. At 8pm Seanscoil Sailearna, Indreabhán, will present Ádhamh agus Éabha, a co-production between Ciotóg and Salamandar.

On Saturday 27, from 10am to 3pm there will be various arts workshops for young people and a trip to the set of Ros na Rún. At 2pm there will be music, poetry, and song at Cnoc Suain.

At 8.30pm in Seanscoil Sailearna, Indreabhán, the highlight of the weekend’s events take place with a concert from Altan’s Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh agus cairde.

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh was born and raised in the Donegal Gaeltacht of Gaoth Dobhair. She is one of the leading exponents of Donegal fiddle music, receiving tuition from her father Francie and the great Dinny McLaughlin. She has enjoyed international success and acclaim with Altan.
