The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO ) Trolley Watch has released their trolley figures as part of an ongoing daily campaign to review patient and staff care within Ireland's hospitals.
Across the country, 658 admitted patients are currently waiting on beds, with 443 patients waiting within the emergency departments, and 215 are in wards elsewhere in the hospitals. Three of these patients are under 16 years of age.
In the University Hospital Galway, 42 patients are on trolleys in the emergency department, while 31 are elsewhere in the wards, totalling 73 patients on trolleys within the hospital grounds.
In Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, there were 9 patients on trolleys are in the emergency department, while 23 are elsewhere in the wards, totalling 32 patients on trolleys within the hospital grounds.
The INMO is determined to make safe staffing happen in Irish healthcare. They campaign for the full implementation of the Framework for Safe Staffing and Skills Mix in Nursing, and the National Maternity Strategy, in order to ensure the best possible care in their facilities and the best possible working conditions for their members.
