In light of the damning documents released to TG4 news in relation to the cryptosporidium outbreak in Galway city in 2007, the director of services for Water Services in Galway City Council should “consider his position”, says Councillor Padraig Conneely.
The damning documents released on the Freedom of Information request clearly shows Galwy City Council failed to comply with EPA standards of water testing prior to March 2007.
Cllr Conneelly was outspokenly critical at the time of the crisis in the city and the lack of information at the time did serious damage to the people of the city and also to businesses and to the commercial life of the city.
Internal memos within Galway City Council shows that Galway city council water services were not compliant with EPA standards for water testing.
During the crypotsporidium in 2007 Cllr Conneely said heads should roll, and Cllr Conneely’s comments at the time were criticised by the city manager.
“I am now conviced that I was right at the time and the released memos fully vindicates my outspoken stance at the time,” he said. The matter is set to be raised at next Monday’s City Council meeting.
