Transport Infrastructure Ireland this month confirmed that a new Active Travel Scheme along Thomas Hynes Road from the Browne Roundabout to the old Westwood Junction will be progressed in the coming months.

The scheme will include the installation of cycle lanes and upgrade of footpaths along both sides of the road.

Speaking about this development, Fine Gael Cllr Eddie Hoare has welcomed the proposed scheme.

“This is a very positive development and we will hopefully see designs for this scheme prepared in the coming months.

“This scheme will complement the proposed upgrade of the Browne Roundabout and will further enhance Galway’s cycle network. Furthermore, I welcome the recent upgrades and installation of crossings along Circular Road and Siobhan McKenna Road,” he said.

Cll Hoare said that he has asked Galway City Council to contact the National Transport Authority with a view to progressing a cycle network along Siobhan Mckenna Road, as this would link up with the proposed works on Thomas Hynes Road.

“Finally, I am consistently engaging with TII in relation to secure a much needed Pedestrian Crossing at the Dangan Sportsground. The design is now with TII and we await a response on this. This is a priority project and needs to be progressed,” he concluded.
